Ask the Orthodontist: The need for jaw surgery along with Orthodontic Treatment is determined by the relationships of teeth and especially jaws to each other. It has nothing to do with the type of braces or the insurance coverage. Know, however, that other than severe cranio-facial deformities, surgery is rarely covered under Medicare.

Orthodontist: The orthodontist (find one trained in both surgical and non-surgical treatments) will perform a complete evaluation and make recommendations. Some cases can be done with just braces, others need a combined braces/surgery approach, others can be done either way - with pros and cons. If surgery necessary, find the most experienced oral & maxillofacial surgeon.

A Team Approach: Your OMS surgeon, family or pediatric dentist, and orthodontist will determine whether you need corrective jaw surgery, regardless if the treatment conducted under the NHS.
