Yes: Cortisone works but best when injected or infiltrated into the entire lesion such as a keloid. This is the most effective way or removal since use of surgical ablation will result in regrowth.

A 43-year-old member asked:

I have a sunburn from vacation. How long to keep using hydrocortisone?

Ibuprofen and aloe: If sunburn is mild and focal, Hydrocortisone twice daily for a week can help. I find that Ibuprofen orally 4 times a day, and frequent application of aloe containing lotion has best efficacy. If more severe, your doctor may add a prescription strength topical steroid and/or silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) to opened areas.
A 44-year-old member asked:

If I go get some hydrocortisone cream 1.0% will there be any side effects?

1 doctor answer3 doctors weighed in
Dr. Ankush Bansal
Internal Medicine 17 years experience
Yes, possibly: All medications have side effects. You don't necessarily get them all or even any. Hydrocortisone cream is a steroid - which has many potential side effects. But if you need it, you need it. Doctors always weight the benefits to the potential harm of any treatment. Steroid creams can cause thinning of skin, localized bleeding, increased risk of infection, & increased blood sugar among others.
A 36-year-old member asked:

What is the treatment for cortizone (hydrocortisone) overdose?

1 doctor answer3 doctors weighed in
Dr. Michael Zacharisen
Allergy and Immunology 33 years experience
Slowly back down: If a person has been using high dose or long term oral or injectable steroids (cortisone) then it is crucial to gradually taper the dose to prevent what is called adrenal insufficiency. It a very large dose of steroid causes the adrenal gland to stop producing steroid, the rapid withdrawal can lead to severe symptoms including death. Gradually taper steroids if had high dose or long term use.
A 41-year-old member asked:

Where online can I get hydrocortisone tablets without a prior prescription?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Andrew Murphy

Not a good idea: Buying medicines online from unknown anonymous vendors is a dangerous practice. Obtaining and using prescription medications without a prescription is dangerous and probably illegal in most states. If one is attempting this purchase over the internet this may violate federal laws.
