A 48-year-old female asked:
People say that brown discharge is a first period and that it will soon turn into blood, does anyone know how long that might be? I need to know please

Brown is blood: Not sure what you mean by "turn into blood." Brown vaginal discharge is usually old blood that has been sitting in the uterus or back of the vagina. The color of menstrual blood is not something to worry about. If you are concerned something is wrong with your menstrual cycles an Obgyn can help you out. Irregular bleeding is a common problem we deal with.

Irregular periods: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections, polyp, fibroids and hormonal changes can cause spotting. There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. If you think you might be pregnant check then check a home pregnancy test
