TMJ/TMD: Tmd may occur when the jaw twists during opening, closing or side-motion movements. Diagnosis is an important step before any treatment. Rec.: see orofacial pain specialist for TMJ evaluation and treatment.

TMJ: Sound that when opening your jaw, you stretched the TMJ muscles and triggered a spasm; suggest you see your doctor if the pain persists.

Maybe not: A number of reasons for this, but consider tmj, this can radiate pain into the temporal region (side of the head above the ear). If it continues to be a problem, talk to your doctor. Also, ask others if you grind your teeth during sleep?
