A 35-year-old member asked:
Is it possible for a colposcope to prolong a menstrual cycle?

Unusual: Any stress on the body, such as surgery, can prolong or alter the next menses. It would be unusual for a colposcopy to cause this. However, if a biopsy was performed, the biopsy site can bleed lightly, usually for a day or two. Prolonged bleeding should be addressed by the gynecologist.

A 20-year-old member asked:
My menstrual cycle is so unpredictable I never know when to expect it. It is never monthly and once I didn't get my period for 6 months is this normal?

Doctor can evaluate: There are many causes for irregular menstruation. One common one is polycystic ovarian syndrome (pcos), a hormonal imbalance along with cysts in the ovaries. Though most irregular menstruation is not acutely dangerous, any woman who does not menstruate monthly should consider seeing her pcp or an ob/gyn for evaluation.

A 22-year-old female asked:
Will taking a h.P.T. While on your period affect the results? Sounds dumb but this "menstrual cycle" looks weird & I've been feelin different for 3 weeks

Not usually: It is possible to have a lighter than usual period after you become pregnant. The bleeding is caused by the implantation of the fertilized egg into the lining of the womb. If you want to do a pregnancy test, make sure there's no blood in the urine specimen. It might make it hard to read the results.

HOW SO??: On the scant info that you provide, your age suggests a female hormonal issue. See your gyn to discuss.
