Weeks or years: Genital warts are not dangerous, but are contagious. . Once a person is infected, he or she may develop warts in days, weeks or even years. Outbreaks are so very variable. Sometimes so many years after contact that a person has no memory of who infected them. They should be treated - either coagulated in the office or the operating room - depending on how many you have. .Peter wilk, md.
