A 44-year-old member asked:

please help docs! is natural peanut butter kicking me out of ketosis?

Certainly possible: To be in ketosis you need to eat less than 30-50g net carbs per day depending on the person. It would be pretty easy to get above that amount eating peanut butter or even almond butter (a better alternative). Check your label/serving size and see where your' intake falls. Good luck!

Food allergy: Humans can survive just fine on a vegan or even limited vegan diets. The more limited your diet , the more likely you are to need a multivitamin to get some important minerals and vitamins. If you omit amimal protein from your diet, you need a good source of protein such as : legumes (peas, lentils, beans etc.) soy, tree nuts or seeds (sunflower). Eggs (esp. Egg white) are also a healthy choice.

Internet myth: Despite the decades of hoopla about food preservatives being horrible for people, the best-attested instance of cancer due to something in a staple food is aflatoxin in moldy ground nuts eaten by the world's poor. Of course, this eventually got hyped into all nuts and peanut butter "causing cancer". You can't totally avoid carcinogens, but you'd be "nuts" to let this fear dominate your life.
A 43-year-old member asked:

Can eating crunchy peanut butter in a pb&j sandwich make you constipated?

Dr. Eric L. Weiss

Perhaps, if dry...: There are many reasons for relative constipation. Have your md review your current medications for constipation as side effect. Fiber (with enough water) very helpful, and you need to titrate up to full doses or you will get gassy. A healthy, fiber filled diet always good, and don't forget to drink more water. Regular exercise also excellent for getting those bowels moving.

Dr. Michael Fenster

Depends: Many peanut butters contain additives, particularly things like sugar. These additives in large quantities could precipitate health issues. Peanut butter made strictly from ground peanuts are definitely part of a healthy diet. Check out www.Whatscookingwithdoc.Com for healthful eating info.

Usually not. : Depends on the reason for dehydration. If it was vomiting, then you may wish to take your time eating difficult to digest foods. If was environment and poor hydration, then once you're hydrated, it won't matter.
