Be patient: The erosion that occurs in the esophagus from the acid caused by gastro esophageal reflux disease (gerd) is what causes the soreness, and that can take weeks for the are to heal properly. Avoiding caustic foods/drinks and trigger foods as well as taking the proton pump inhibitor medication will help your recovery. Best wishes.
