Like insect bites: The bites appear like small insect bites, if you scratch the area, then the region would be red, hot and tender to the touch, if infected.

You usually will see the lice in the hair or on the scalp and the nits (eggs) on the hair stands.

See a dermatologist: If you have lice, you will see the lice and their eggs (nits). When present they are usually quite obvious. You need a diagnosis with treatment accordingly.
