Can recur: Preterm labor can recur in later pregnancies. 17 oh Progesterone injections starting in the 2nd trimester do decrease the risk.

Multiple reasons: Sometimes we do not know what causes preterm labor, especially when there are seemingly no risk factors. There are multiple risk factors and conditions associated with preterm labor and delivery. As you have alluded to, having one preterm birth is a risk factor for a repeat preterm birth. Progesterone decreases the risk of preterm birth in these women.
