A 42-year-old member asked:

for my overbite to be corrected, would i have to get braces or just wear a retainer, what to do?

Braces: Retainers retain, they hold things where they are. To move teeth you need orthodontic treatment, and braces are far and away the best treatment appliances. Braces now, retainers after braces come off. See a qualified orthodontic specialist.

See an Orthodontist: Many orthodontists offer an initial consultation for free. A free consultation allows you to find out what type of treatment is recommended and if you are a good candidate for braces or retainer.

Will asupport belt or bracekeep my low back safe when I lift at work?

No!: Elastic support belts or braces do not keep you safe when doing heavy lifting at work. Only your brain keeps you safe. These belts and braces only serve as a "reminder" to be safe. Relying on them for support and safety is a common mistake that often leads to back issues. Rely on them only as a reminder tool.
A 21-year-old member asked:

Do they use braces or surgery for scoliosis today?

2 doctor answers6 doctors weighed in
Dr. Haleh Agdassi
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 26 years experience
Depends: It depends on the classification (idiopathic, neuromuscular etc) of the scoliosis as well as the degree of the curvature. Goal is early diagnosis and keep the curvature controlled during growth spurt. In idiopathic (most common) bracing is generally recommended for degrees of curvature 20-40. Greater than 40 surgery is considered. Again, many factors to consider. Discuss with orthopedic surgeon.
