A 47-year-old member asked:
How likely is survival for a loved one with bone marrow cancer?

Dr. Tariq Niazianswered

Depends:: Depends on a number of factors, like:
the general condition, nutritional status, type of cancer, type of treatment given so far,
any complicating factors.
Some cancers, like prostate, are slow growing and survival can be for a long time.
It also depends on the bone (s) affected by the cancer.
Your oncologist should give you a prognosis, as he is aware of his situation.

How do I donate bone marrow to someone with bone marrow cancer? What happens?
1 doctor answer • 1 doctor weighed in

Dr. Steven Ginsberganswered

See below: The chance of you matching a non-sibling individual in order to donate marrow is less than 1 in 1 million. You can register to be on the national marrow donor program. That way, if there is someone out there that needs a marrow donor, you can be found if you are a match. It's very honorable of you to do this.
