what is the next break through in dermatology?

4 doctor answers

Skin replacement: There are many areas of investigation in dermatology such as better treatment for tumors like melanoma and treatment for chronic conditions like psoriasis and eczema. A most interesting line of investigation is to develop an artificial skin to replace skin damaged by disease or trauma. This would be a fabulous breakthrough. Do you have any ideas for a skin breakthrough?

Tough call: I think being able to diagnose a melanoma or skin cancer with rapid and simple imaging modalities may be more readily available. Advances in skin cancer and melanoma therapies are progressing. Even needle free neurotoxin delivery may be big breakthroughs.

Gene therapy: Targeted gene therapy, finding the gene causing a disease and then targeting therapy to fix or replace the defective gene. This could be the basis for future treatment of all skin diseases, skin cancer, and anti-aging therapies.
