Sleeve gastrectomy : Patients typically lose about 60-65% of their excess body weight by a year to year and a half. That means if you are 100lbs overweight, you would lose 60-65 lbs. If you are 200 lbs overweight, you would lose 120-130 lbs.

Sleeve surgery: Is safe and effective. It works through several hormonal pathways and not just restriction (e.g. Ghrelin, glp-1, pyy, etc). These honors take hunger away. Lifestyle changes are required for all bariatric surgeries. When all goes away, patients lose 60-75 lbs, for every 100 lbs they are over weight.

Depends on you: Sleeve gastrectomy is a physiologic restrictive operation. The average weight loss is about 70% of the excess weight. However, it depends on the patient and his/her initial weight before surgery. Nothing say that you cant lose all your excess weight if you follow the instruction of the diet and exercise. I have several patients who lost more than 100 lbs. in the first 6 month after the surgery.

Life changing: Make sure you talk fully with your surgery team before surgery and that you have a full understanding of the surgery and consequences BEFORE you do it. It is lifechanging. First few days after surgery can entail some nausea, pain, etc. Long term, your stomach will hold less food; protein should be the focus. Each program is a little different; talk in depth with a skilled bariatric surgeon.
