Very safe if Rx ed: If your doctor prescribed they are very safe to use , as they enhance the sound at a frequency that you lost or missing , just like your eye glasses . Now so sophisticated will adjust the sound when enter a crowded room , when you use cell phone etc. Speak to your doctor

Ask doctor.: Ask your doctor, her doctor, or a local free health clinic if they can use/recycle the hearing aid. I would bet that a free/low cost clinic would be happy to have her donate it.

How long does a set of hearing aids last before they break?

Ask audiologist: Depends on whether you drop them, step on them, get them soaked with water, or do other nasty things to them. Otherwise the person or business from which they were purchased could give you the best estimate of how long they should last under normal circumstances. Hope it is years.

Depends: What is the cause of the hearing problem, how long has it been present, etc. Strongly suggest you see an ENT doctor who can assess the condition and devise the best plan for individual management.
