Can dehydration give a false low fingerstick?

Dr. Alvin Fried

Probably not: In general, dehydration should cause blood tests to be abnormally high as the serum is concentrated. This is almost impossible to research, but is my considered opinion. It is difficult to see how dehydration can lower any blood test.

Many!: Dehydration is very common and can occur even in people who drink plenty of water. It's important to drink or consume electrolytes in addition to water in order to stay hydrated. I get really dehydrated at work. What can I do?

Drink water in 32oz : Calculate half of your body weight in pounds - that is the oz of water you need daily eg 100 pounds = 50 oz water per day. For coffee drinkers multiply oz of coffee x 3 in addition for water requirement.
A 40-year-old member asked:

Can dehydration cause some acid-base metabolism disorders?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Mahmood Khichi
Pediatric Critical Care 31 years experience
Yes: Dehydration can result in low blood volume or hypovolemia, which affects tissue perfusion and oxygenetion. The tissues are stressed and produce acids that spill into blood, which cause acidity in the blood. The extent of acidity can be tested and give an idea of the severity of the dehydration.
