Dominant mass: If not found very early on mammography, a breast cancer usually announces itself as a painless mass in the breast. They are rare in women before age 30. A majority of breast lumps are benign but the lab usually needs to make the final call on tissue. They are much less common in men but do occur; a lump under one or both of a man's nipples is usually gynecomastia, which is benign.
