Lumbar puncture: Lumbar punctures can cause headaches from low cerebrospinal fluid pressure but this is usually temporary. Brain damage is a rare complication related to a large mass or pressure in the brain that can cause brain contents to herniate into the spinal canal or against the brainstem. Vomiting and aspirating after a lumbar puncture could lead to pneumonia.
