Manic depression/bip: There is no difference between manic depression and bipolar. Manic depression is simply an outdated term for Bipolar Disorder. Some diagnoses and outdated terms are changed as well as the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM) . Psychologists consult this manual in order to help diagnose disorders. The current/new one (DSM 5), just came out in 2014/15
