Indication 4 surgery: Most hemorrhoid patients resolve with medical therapy. If your symptoms persist, beyond a 4 to 6 week trial of bowel regimen and local care, then ask for surgical referral. Take friend to help with risk/benefit analysis. Rectal surgery can benefit, recovery is challenging in this sensitive area and can take up to several weeks. Be well.

Depends: There are several variations of "hemorrhoidectomy" depending on exactly how large your hemorrhoids are and the distribution of internal versus external hemorrhoids. If only internal hemorrhoids need to be removed then the recovery is quite short, 7-10d to full activity. If large external hemorrhoids need to be removed this is more painful and can take up to a month to full recovery.

Days to weeks: Can be painful for days or weeks depending on each person. More discomfort maybe with standard incisional surgery & maybe less discomfort with internal stapled technique. Little or no discomfort with internal hemorrhoid banding.
