Depends on diagnosis: An eye infection can last a couple weeks if it is due to a virus. Antibiotic eye drops do not help if the infection is viral. Also, eyelid inflammation or blepharitis can cause red eyes as well as allergies. You should be examined by an ophthalmologist to determine the cause.
