Clinical Psychology 45 years experience
Children: There are not always disagreements but children's brains are very fragile and thus have to be treated very carefully and not diagnosed quickly or by those with limited experience with children's developmental stages. Best.
Dr. Johanna Fricke
Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics 50 years experience
By whom? I agree : that diagnoses of mental illness in children require thoughtful review of genetic, biological & environmental factors contributing to a set of symptoms that fulfill DSM-V criteria for a specific disorder. Child & adolescent symptoms may evolve over time, so age & developmental stage must be considered. Many disorders that begin with signs of ADHD in childhood show additional symptoms with age.
Dr. Virginio Rodriguez
Pediatrics 36 years experience
The presentation of Mental illnesses in the adult population may be completely different in the pediatric population as in early onset bipolar disorders!
