Is the direction of the hair whorl genetic? Can 2 people with clockwise hair whorls have a child with a counterclockwise one?

I don't know!: What an interesting question. I don't think that has ever been studied. I wonder if it depends on what side of the equator you were born on.

Those born directly on the equator would be at a true disadvantage if they chose to wear their hair long if this argument stood up...

David W Smith did study this, and a discussion may be found in his book, Recognizable Patterns of Human Malformation. In my experience, most double hair whorls twirl in opposite directions, both aiming medially towards the forehead, causing a congenital cowlick.
