Yes: The disease is a result of inhaling droplets or soil contaminated by the legionella bacterium. Not everyone who is exposed will get this. Risk factors include age over 65 years, low immunity, smoking, steroid treatment, chronic lung disease and occupational (air conditioner maintainers).

Possibly: If your immune system is less mature or weak as in children or elderly adults, respectively, the symptoms may be more severe. Certainly the vaccine is only given to healthy adults for this reason.
