Wow -- very painful: It sounds like you're really feeling miserable, and have been for a long time. It's not usual for a 4 year old to set herself on fire. I'm wondering what you're dealing with inside -- and suggest you consider working with a psychologist.

Specifically find a psychologist who deals with childhood trauma. Try to find someone who has experience working with burn victims if you can and also has a good knowledge of depth psychology and psychoanalytic theory. Best wishes and I can tell you from experience working with many victims of a variety of childhood tragedies, including burns, that your Self-esteem can definitely improve with an understanding therapist.

Compassion/Self Hate: In my experience, people with stories much like yours have often benefited from dialectical behavior therapy (dbt). Theodore rubin's "compassion and self-hate" has also sometimes seemed very helpful. I have known many who have experienced healing through psychotherapy (and sometimes also with the help of medicine) who have gone on to live very satisfying lives. May the same be true for you!
