I don't believe it: After twenty years of internet scare stories, the scientific community has not identified any syndrome affecting anyone in reasonably good health resulting from black mold. Most of us think the business is driven by tort lawyers and big-money mold removal companies. People with vague / psychosomatic complaints are urged to blame "black mold", and the real losers are the public.

Controversial topic: The data on "black mold" is very controversial. There is data that says it is a problem and data that says it is not. In general, the presence of mold suggests a water or moisture problem that needs to be addressed.

Wear a mask: Wear a particle mask to prevent inhaling the spores. Look for moisture in the location and get that eliminated; clean the files of a much of the mold as possible. When the moisture is resolved infusing thieves brand essential oil into the air (which may be uncomfortable to humans) will help to kill any remaining mold spores. If you can't get cooperation may need to look for a new job location.

Is black mold that is forming in our house safe?

No: Mold should not be growing in your home. There are several molds that are black in color and all could potentially cause human illness either as an allergen or a respiratory irritant for others. If mold is seen on a wall this often is due to a water leak from a hidden pipe and might require removal of the sheetrock to determine the source.

Not all black mold is stachybotris, the dangerous mold. Apply bleach to all mold you see and keep the area dry. Mold thrives on humidity, get an dehumidifier and turn it on all the time to dry up the area that grows mold.
