Filling non cavity: Yes it is. Many patients have gum recession, clench or grind their teeth, over zealously brush improperly and these can result in notching of the tooth structure at the gum line. These areas may not be decayed at all, can be sensitive, and ultimately can undermine the enamel weakening the tooth. It is recommended to restore these areas to restore proper contour, function and strength. (1 example).

Yes: Broken fillings, marginal breakdown of fillings, cervical erosions, toothbrush abrasions, chipped teeth, coronal fractures, closing open contact points are just some of the more common reasons fillings are done even if there is no caries (dental decay) present.

Sealents: If your teeth present deep fissures with a potential for a cavity, your dentist may recommend doing sealents or preventive resin restorations, to protect your teeth from future cavities. These are protective coatings of your teeth & not called the 'Fillings'.
