Immunosuppressants : There are several options. First, sarcoid does not always require treatment. A decision to treat is based on organ invvement and severity of symptoms. If it does require treatment one option is to treat the symptoms only. Treatment can also be aimed at a specific target organ. To replace or decrease steroids Imuran (azathioprine) is one choice. Other options include immunosuppressant and biological meds.

Sarcoidosis rx: Many if not most cases of sarcoidosis don't require any treatment. Other meds used to treat sarcoidosis that is active include plaquenil, methotrexate, and Remicade (infliximab) among others. Any medicine that suppresses the immune system can help though all have varying side effect profiles and monitoring requirements but most have fewer side effects than steroids.

Sarcoidosis: Sarcoidosis is not considered a cancer. It is a disease of unknown etiology. It can be described as a non-casesating granulomatous disease. It is difficult to diagnose. It was thought that having sarcoid increased a patient's chance of cancer, esp. Lymphoma, but several recent articles dispute this claim. Probably yes: Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disease with unknown cause some of time the lungs are affected negatively a lung specialist would evaluate you and determine the extent of your lung involvement. Also, in some rare cases there can be heart involvement-perhaps irregular heart beats.A cardiologist would need to evaluate you in that case if you are affected by aches, pains and given the o-k--exercise helps.

Broadness of term: Corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory medications that are similar to cortisol, a steroid that is naturally produced by the adrenal glands that sit on top of one's kidneys. Corticosteroids are a type of steroid. Anabolic steroids are a different type of steroids which are often abused by people wanting to "bulk up" or improve their weightlifting artificially.
