Yes and yes: A cycle is dependent on hormones. Estrogen allows the lining tissue to grow and have more blood flow to sustain. Progesterone (prover) later does the opposite and there is sloughing off of tissue, the period. The cycle is interrupted, therefore by the depot. As its effect wanes, the normal cycle resumes. The cycle, the egg, tissue receptivity for conception, you can ask gyn for now.

Of course : Once your off birth control you will go back to your usual pattern. Depo can take awhile to get out of your system though.

Eventually: It can take awhile to start having periods again after Depo and then they can be irregular for awhile but eventually they should be back to what they were like before you started the Depo unless something else has changed.

Breakthrough bleeding: under ideal circumstances you would not have any bleeding or spotting at all while on Depo-Provera. For all practical purposes though women on Depo-Provera experience irregular spotting or breakthrough bleeding every so often.
