Diet Pills: There are no diet pills on the market that truly lead to real or sustained weight loss. If there were physicians would be recommending them to you. Please do not waste your money on these products.

What are "automation" and "adjustment" as keys to weight loss?

Routine change: Automation refers to making things "automatic" in your weight loss routine. This would include "go to" meals that you have established to be within your caloric intake value. It also includes things like scheduling of exercise so that it becomes routine. Adjustment is the process of accepting change. The more routine (automatic) you make exercise and meals the better the chances of success.

It's more fun: It's both a support mechanism and a form of friendly competition. It also gives you an automatic accountability system. Most importantly, studies show that it works well.

Take with caution: Some studies have reported increase in pravastatin concentration if taken with Alli (orlistat) thus may result in increased GI side effects (abdominal pain, gas, fecal urgency, oily spotting), muscle pain. Report any joint/muscle/back pain, dark urine, upper belly pain, unusual weakness/tiredness, yellowing of eyes /skin. To reduce GI issues reduce fat intake (follow a healthy diet).

Is it safe to fast for weight loss while on medications?

Dr. Randy Baker
Holistic Medicine 40 years experience
Generally yes but...: This depends a lot on what medications one is taking. For example, medications to lower blood sugar may result in your blood sugar going too low if fasting. Some meds are more likely to irritate your stomach or may be poorly absorbed without food; see how it's recommended to take it, Also, consider intermittent fasting: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/intermittent-fasting-guide See comment

I see you have chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. I have found that most with these conditions have chronic Lyme disease with co-infecitons as the actual cause of their problems though standard test may miss this. See http://tinyurl.com/ptotxnn and http://www.betterhealthguy.com/lyme/testing

A 55-year-old female asked:

I want to know if I can add a medication to the medications I'm already on the new medication will help with weight loss and I wanted to know if it would be safe?

Need more info: Cannot answer that without specific medication names. Some Wright loss meds elevate blood pressure or heart rate which can be a problem. Some may have interactions with other meds. Sometimes it is fine to add to what you are already taking. Best to ask your prescribing Dr about this
