Stone vs infection: Simple back pain is associated w/trauma ; movement. Kidney infections are worse case of bladder infection ; thus are also linked to frequent painful urgent urination. Kidney stones cause pain now ; then as body attempts to move them down ureter. Your doc can check urine for blood ; infection ; order ultrasound or ct scan to look for stone. No imaging is necessary for simple back pain w/o red flags.
