Criteria: Current criteria, even after slightly modified recently, requires some signs to have been present during childhood; it is not that necessarily must have been diagnosed at that age. Scales and assessment tools help, as well as a careful history (school, work, collateral info).

Unlikely: Adults with ADHD generally were symptomatic as children. Discuss your concerns with your doctor and have an evaluation because several conditions such as thyroid disease may interfere with your ability to focus and attend.

Sudden ?: I am skeptical when anyone uses the ADHD label on a teen or adult who was never symptomatic in childhood. The nervous system that provided adequate focus & activity control during the regimented requirements of school classrooms doesn't suddenly fail.Lack of proper sleep, anxiety, chronic illness, poor nutrition & other factors impair one's ability to complete tasks.
