Depends: Muscle spasm (painful contraction of a muscle) is a symptom (complain) and can come from many problems. The muscle will feel tight and firm to the touch. It may to sore to the touch and may tighten when it is pushed on.

Tenderness: If deep pressure finds the pain like massage then it is a muscle pain, from deeper structures can't be touched with deep pressure massage muscle pain improves with massage or heat.
