Is a penis functional with surgery from female to male?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Brian Golden
20 years experience in Urology
Prosthesis: Most commonly, f to m gender reassignment surgery is performed using a flap of tissue (often radial forearm free flap) to build a penis. But this does not become erect without some help. A penile prosthesis (inflatable or malleable) can be surgically implanted inside the newly constructed penis, so it can be a functional erection.
