Smoother skin: Microderm has suction to help clean out the pores and vacuum crystals to polish and smooth out the skin. By removing dead skin it helps to make the skin look clearer, fresher, and healthier. It's more effective than a facial, no downtime, not painful, quick and easy to perform, and relatively inexpensive. It's recommended to do regular ongoing treatments to maintain results.

CeraVe or Cetaphil: The skin may be a little red or irritated after microdermabrasion so it helps to apply a light moisturizer such as cetaphil or cerave or aveeno (oatmeal) or eucerin lotion. If you feel some itching or burning or irritation even after applying a moisturizer then you may want to try a Hydrocortisone cream (ie: cortaid). Some people may need something stronger which your doctor would need to prescribe for you.

Skin layer removal: Microdermabrasion is a way of removing a thin layer of dirt and dead skin from your face. A spray of fine crystals or a wand imbedded with an abrasive material such as diamond dust is used along with gentle suction to mechanically scrape and clean the skin. The treatment increases circulation and stimulates collagen growth. There is almost no downtime and minimal discomfort.
A 36-year-old member asked:

How does microdermabrasion differ from exfoliating?

Dr. Robert Peppercorn

Microdermabrasion: Microdermabrasion is performed with a physical instrument to sand off the outermost layer of skin. Exfoliation is simply the outermost keratin layer peeling off naturally or with chemicals.
