There are many: Probenecid (benemid, probalan) and sulfinpyrazone (anturane) are the standard uricosurics. A more potent uricosuric, benzbromarone, may work for people with severe tophaceous gout and kidney impairment when other drugs do not. In some studies, benzbromarone was equal to or even more effective than allopurinol, another type of antihyperuricemic drug.

Allopurinol common: Allopurinol is widely used to reduce uric acid long term. Febuxostat is a better choice for people with kidney problems, or those who take warfarin. Uricosurics are contraindicated in renal insufficiency and people with history of kidney stones. New data suggests that very long term use may not be required if uric acid can be maintained below 7mg/dl after 5 years of control below 6.
