Sitting yet ?: The timing of first solid feeds has more to do with their loss of the tongue thrust and ability to sit than their age. When they can sit propped, they can participate more in the process rather than be shovel fed.

Prematurity: As the baby grows, developmental milestones are reached. Assess the ability to coordinate swallowing baby food with your pediatrician in the office. A small amount of baby rice cereal can be introduced. Have your provider watch the baby in the upright position as the feeding is provided. Formula/Nursing though is the primary source of calories. Rice cereal is fortified with iron.
