What causes type 2 diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes most commonly develops when the body's cells don't respond properly to insulin, which is called insulin resistance. Insulin is a hormone one's pancreas makes, which helps the blood sugar in the body to be used as energy. When the body's cells don't respond normally to insulin, the pancreas will in turn make even more insulin in an attempt to get the cells to respond. The pancreas eventually cannot make enough insulin, and the blood sugar will rise as the person goes into the stage of prediabetes, which then leads to type 2 diabetes.
