A 48-year-old member asked:
Yes: Prophylactic mastectomy is performed under certain situations. Once mastectomy is performed, there are various options for breast reconstuction. The most common method is tissue-expansion/implant reconstruction. Autologous breast reconstruction, which uses your own tissue, with or without implants, is another option. Not everyone is a good candidate for each option. Discuss with your surgeon.
A 39-year-old member asked:
Dermis: Dermis, which is the inner layer of skin, can be harvested from the abdomen (or other areas) to use with tissue-expander or implant-based breast reconstruction. This is used in place of acellular dermal matrix, which is derived from pig skin. The use of dermis is different from a TRAM or DIEP flap, which uses skin, fat, and the attached blood vessels for "autologous" breast reconstruction
A 22-year-old male asked:
Difficult To Tell: Unfortunately, it is difficult to tell the difference between a normal pimple and one that is caused by MRSA. They can both appear as a red and swollen bump, be painful to touch, and be filled with pus. If you are concerned about a possible MRSA infection, you should visit with your doctor. He/she can prescribe a topical antibiotic such as mupirocin or a body wash containing chlorhexidine.
