Sheldon J Kaplan, PhD and Associates
I am a child and adolescent psychologist licensed in the state of Florida and I have an independent practice in Jacksonville. I have been in practice since 1975 and have a diverse practice. I see children and teens with anxiety and depression, learning challenges, attention deficit disorders, oppositional behavior, and emotional challenges during to the loss of a parent through death as well as trauma from divorce. I utilize a very pragmatic approach to therapy and include cognitive behavior therapy, behavior modification, exposure/response prevention, stress management and relaxation training/visual imagery, and family therapy among the treatment methods I utilize. I obtained my bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of Florida, and my master's and doctoral degrees from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illnois. While in graduate school I trained under one of B. F. Skinner's first students and we developed behavioral methods to address a wide array of clinically significant problems. We published several notable articles in professional journals detailing these treatment procedures. After graduate school, I worked as a psychologist for the Duval County School System, where I provided counseling and evaluation for elementary and middle school children. I also was a consultant to a federally funded childcare agency for 20 years of my practice. In all of these venues, I was exposed to a wide array of challenges that children of all ages endure. These experiences have helped me provide effective treatment to the children and teens I treat.
