Donald W. Buck II, MD, is a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon and assistant professor in the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Buck specializes in all aspects of plastic and reconstructive surgery including complex microsurgical reconstruction and cosmetic surgery of the face, breast and body. Dr. Buck has been invited to present at numerous national and international meetings. He is an invited reviewer for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Journal of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery.
Dr. Buck has authored over 45 articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as numerous book chapters for authoritative texts in the field. He is also the invited editor of two international plastic and reconstructive surgery textbooks – Core Procedures in Plastic Surgery and Review of Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Buck received his undergraduate degree with highest distinction from Indiana University where he received awards for his athletic and scholastic achievement, including Sports Illustrated Scholar Athlete of the Year. While at Indiana he was a middle linebacker on the Indiana University football team under Coach Cam Cameron. After graduating from Indiana, he attended the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Upon receiving his medical degree, Dr. Buck was accepted into the seven-year Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency Training Program at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.
Following his plastic surgery training at Northwestern University, Dr. Buck was accepted, out of applicants worldwide, into the Reconstructive Microsurgery Fellowship program at the University of Toronto in Canada.
In addition to his exceptional knowledge and skill, Dr. Buck is an incredibly caring and compassionate human being who has received praise from patients, their families, and colleagues alike for his gentle bedside manner and warm, respectful approach to the patient-doctor relationship.
