I practice general dentistry in Twain Harte, California, after graduating in 1986 from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. I not only enjoy dentistry in Twain Harte but have had the opportunity to share my skills throughout the world, in Tonga, Vanuatu, Mexico, China, India, Cambodia, Belize, Thailand and Peru. I also have had the privilege of lecturing on dental materials, dental techniques and orthodontics in Shenyang, China and have mentored Cambodian dental students in numerous orphanages in Cambodia. One of my current projects is developing cavity prevention protocols in China with hopes of field testing in Cambodia in the near future. My office website is www.twainhartefamilydental.com

A 29-year-old female asked:
Possible infection: From your description, your problem seems to be in the back of your mouth around where the wisdom teeth are. First, do you see a dentist regularly? Second, do you have any loose or broken teeth in the area or bleeding gums? This could be due to, simply, a piece of food caught between your teeth, or serious periodontal disease and/or a tooth infection. Please see a dentist for an evaluation.
A 35-year-old member asked:
Sugar free gum: Although I do not recommend chewing gum because of the stress it puts on the temporal mandibular joint (TMJ), for those who do, I recommend gum that contains xylitol. It actually reduces the number of cavity forming bacteria in your mouth. But, this is important, for it to work effectively, you need to ingest 2 grams per day, so check the labels carefully.
A 46-year-old member asked:
White patch in mouth: Any part of your mouth that is white or a different color could be a concern. It could be as simple as a food allergy or as serious as oral cancer. Although oral cancer is rare it should be taken very seriously. Schedule an appointment with your dentist for an evaluation.
