Gustavo Ruiz de Castilla received his dental degree from Harvard University
School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated Cum Laude (high honors) in 1989, and was
the recipient of the Northeastern Society of Periodontists award for excellence
in undergraduate Periodontics, and the Quintessence Award for outstanding
performance in clinical Periodontics
Ruiz earned a Master’s Degree in Medical Sciences in the discipline of Oral
Biology and completed his training in Post-Doctoral Periodontics and
Implantology at Harvard University. After graduation in 1991, he was appointed
Assistant Clinical Instructor for the Department of Periodontology in the
Post-Doctoral Training Program at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.
Ruiz has done extensive research, and pioneer work, in the field of periodontal
regeneration, and has extensive experience in procedures leading to the
regeneration of the supporting structures of the teeth. He has published
several articles in this topic and has lectured nationally and internationally
in the subjects of bone grafting and regeneration, Periodontics and
Implantology. Dr. Ruiz is the first Periodontist in Hillsborough County to
treat periodontitis with the Periolase laser.
Ruiz is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the Academy of
Osseointegration, the American Dental Association, and the Florida Dental
Association. He is former president of the Hillsborough County Periodontal
Association. His hobbies are snow skiing, hiking, reading and traveling.
