Dr. Isenberg, a solo otolaryngologist practicing inIndianapolis,Indiana, since 1979, has been featured throughout the country as a community-based practicing physician. His topics and peer-reviewed scientific articles include outcome measurements, improving medical practice efficiency with process improvements, updated information systems and patient satisfaction, and the business of healthcare from a practicing physician’s perspective. Dr. Isenberg is the editor of Managed Care, Capitation and Outcomes: A Practical Guide Thieme Publishers, 1997,New York,NY), and the co-editor of Profiting From Quality: Outcome Strategies for Medical Practice (Jossey-Bass, San Francisco, 1999). Steve is the author and founder of Project Quality Card™ (PQC) and the Practice Improvement Program (PIP). PIP won the prestigious 2000 Morris Fishbein Award from the American Medical Writers Association for excellence in medical communications. Dr. Isenberg has served as the Chairman of the Practice Management, Infectious Disease and Quality Improvement Committees of the AAO-HNS. In 2003, he was elected by the AAO-HNS membership to serve on the Board of Directors of the AAO-HNS and AAO-HNSF as a representative of private practice. He has presented “Surviving Thriving; The Practice Improvement Program” as a two-day instruction course at the Annual Meeting of the AAO-HNS since 1994, as well as numerous forums, scientific papers and practice management seminars. In 2007, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the AAO-HNSF. Dr Isenberg serves on the Editorial Board and authors the monthly Practice Management Clinic for the Ear, Nose and Throat Journal. He is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine where he has served as the President of the Dean’s Council and Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr Isenberg also serves as a Director of several private companies. Steve is a marathon runner and founded Medals4Mettle (www.medals4mettle.org) in 2005, a 501c3 non-profit organization that arranges for marathon finishers to award their medals to sick patients and those with disabilities who demonstrate similar mettle, or courage, as they struggle through much more difficult marathons. His efforts have resulted in awarding over 20000 medals worldwide. Medals4Mettle currently has over sixty chapters in the United Statesand several other nations around the world. Dr Isenberg has been recognized for his efforts with the Otis Bowen Community Service Award from the Indianapolis Medical Society (2002,2003), the Grand Prize of the Human Race from <em>Runners World</em> magazine (2008) and the first Arnold P Gold National Humanism in Medicine Award (2009).
