Dr. Awalt is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. She served as a resident in General Dentistry at the Western Reserve Northside Medical Centre. She completed her internship and residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the North Brooklyn Health Network Woodhull Medical Center. She has been a Clinical Instructor in Dentistry at the Youngstown State University Department of Health Professions, Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, and the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. She has authored chapters in the recent edition of Ray Fonseca's Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeryon "The Pharmacology of Drugs in Ambulatory Anesthesia and Monitoring for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Patient and Parenteral Sedation" and in Lars Andersson's Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeryon "Soft Tissue Trauma". She also has written articles in the journal Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America on "Orthognatic Surgery" and Atlas of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America on "Distraction Osteogenesis". Dr. Awalt has participated in several international surgical missions to Ethiopia, Jamaica, and Venezuela where she provided surgical care for patients with dental and oral pathology and craniofacial abnormalities. Dr. Awalt has served on the executive committee of the Baltimore County Dental Association and is a member of many local and national dental organizations. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a Fellow of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Awalt has been listed as one of Baltimore's Best Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in Baltimore Magazine.
