Chronic : Chronic hives occur up to 1% of population, more commonly in adults. It is a self-limited disease. According to university based research, about 30-50% of them recover in one year although nearly 20% of them continue to have hives after 5 years. There is no cure. There are several proposed theory of the causes of the disease, however, none appears to be helpful in determining the treatment or prognosis. With proper treatment it can be controlled. Allergy tests are not helpful.
A 21-year-old female asked:

It : It depends on what kind of allergic reactions you have to beans and soy. The absorption of protein from foods may be affected by the allergic reactions that happen in the stomach and intestines depending on the severity of the allergic reactions. For a more severe reaction, the stomach and intestines are inflamed and are unable to digest and absorb the protein. The common symptoms of food allergies to beans and soy are bloated stomach, cramp, gas and loose stool. If your allergies to beans and soy do not involve stomach and intestines, then there will be no issue with protein absorption.

The : The swollen lips are not likely due to salmon you ate the night before. It is called angioedema. There are many causes of angioedema. Food allergy reactions usually occur within 2 hours of eating. With your history of two episodes of anaphylaxis, you may want to see an allergist in your area to evaluate of the nature of the angioedema.
