About

Bio

Dr. Cantos graduated from SUNYAB school of Dental Medicine in 1981 and went into private practice at that time. He has been in private practice continuously since then. In 1983 he began to treat patients in Skilled Nursing Facilities (Nursing Homes) as a separate part of his practice and became involved in dental research in the field of geriatric dentistry. Over time he opened his own office at 2264 Main Street in Buffalo. He became dental director at 8 different Skilled Nursing Facilities and joined the staff at Sisters of Charity Hospital and Kenmore Mercy Hospital. His involvement in academics also increased from his involvement in research to becoming a clinical instructor in a postgraduate Geriatric Dentistry Fellowship. Currently Dr. Cantos is a clinical assistant professor at SUNYAB School of Dental Medicine, has recently qualified for fellowship status in the American Academy of Oral Medicine, and has a full time practice at his Main Street location. His areas of interest include cosmetic dentistry, implant restoration, root canal therapy, periodontics (treatment of gum disease), crowns and bridges, full and partial dentures. With his background in Geriatric Dentistry, he is comfortable treating patients with complex medical problems, on numerous medications, or patients that are "difficult" to treat due to conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Autism or Developmentally disabled individuals. The office is handicap accessible and has early morning and evening hours. Training Dr. Cantos has taken over 500 hours of continuing education since finishing his formal training. He is always current in CPR and well versed in dental emergencies and medical emergencies. He has taken advanced training programs at NYU, Case Western University, at ADA annual meetings and at the Greater Niagara Dental meetings.

Specialties
Doctors may have more than one area of specialty interest. Board certification in a specialty area means the doctor has completed formal training and has practice experience in that specialty, and has passed the certification examination from the corresponding accredited medical specialty board.
