You generally can't: Many cavities don't hurt, and only show up on x-ray films. Don't wait 'till it hurt, it may not, or by that time you may need root canal!

Probably not: In japan they showed it could happen, but with 40% peroxide. It's illegal in the usa, here we only get up to 3-5% no proof here.
