Vestibular neuritis: Usually low dose corticosteroids prednisone/methylprednisolone are used to speed recovery. To treat the vertigo, Meclizine or a benzodiazepine, like low dose diazepam, are commonly used.

Neuritis not simple: An irritated nerve will produce symptoms of pain in the nerve area, and may cause weakness as well. Usually this term is used to specify a neurve related painful condition. However, sometimes the problem is in the brain and it only seems like it is in a nerve. Vestibular neuritis is a misnomer, the problem is usually in the inner ear. Brachial plexitis is also a neuritis.
A 41-year-old member asked:

It's complicated: Optic neuritis is an inflammation of one or both eye nerves causing changes in vision. It is almost always part of multiple sclerosis, whether or not other symptoms are apparent or an MRI abnormality is evident. Significant visual impairments are usually treated with high dose I.V. Methylprednisolone to enhance and speed recovery and reduce the severity of the injury, and reduce new symptoms.
