A lot of things: This could be from an infection, inflammation or an injury. I would recommend you see a hand surgeon for a full evaluation.

Could be normal: Joints can pop and crack at is typically not a problem. Since you had an injury i would recommend you see a hand surgeon to have it evaluated.

If it hurts: Assuming this is just a ganglion cyst i would only recommend surgery if it is bothering you. These cysts are benign.

I can : Dupuytren's can affect the thumb but is less common. I never affects the wrist. Most common fingers affected is the ring and little.
